OECD Partnership

BIAC is the officially recognized voice of the business community at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), covering a broad range of global economic governance and policy issues. 

Concordia is the sole voice of the Romanian business as an observer member, supporting Romania’s efforts for OECD accession.  

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international organisation that works to build better policies for better lives. Their goal is to shape policies that foster prosperity, equality, opportunity and well-being for all. With 60 years of experience, its membership includes 38 countries across the globe, from North to South America, to Europe and Asia-Pacific. They are represented by ambassadors at the OECD Council, which defines and oversees OECD’s work, as set out in the Convention. Member countries engage with OECD’s experts, use their data and analysis to inform policy decisions. The European Commission participates in OECD’s work, but it does not have the right to vote. 

Romania’s accession to OECD is a strategic objective of Romania’s foreign policy.  

Admission criteria: 

  • Like-mindedness – referring to the existence of a market-based economy and a functional democracy; 
  • Significant player – regarding the size and economic importance of the candidate state; 
  • Mutual benefit – requiring for the accession to be advantageous for both the candidate country and the OECD; 
  • Global considerations – regarding the assurance of geographical balance between the organisation’s members. 
  • The political consensus of OECD member states not only on the Romanian candidacy (political support of all member states for Romania’s accession), but also on the substance and sequence of the enlargement.
